Forebrain

The largest part of the brain that includes the cerebrum, the thalamus, and the hypothalamus and that (especially in higher vertebrates) is the main control center for sensory and associative information processing, visceral functions, and voluntary motor functions.

That part of the brain controlling sensation, perception, emotion, learning, thinking, and other intellectual functions and including the olfactory bulb and tracts cerebral hemispheres, and nasal ganglia, as well as the thalamus, optic tracts, and hypothalamus; also called prosencephalon.

The farthest forward division of the brain, consisting of the diencephalon and the two cerebral hemispheres.


The forebrain is the largest and most prominent among the major sections of the brain. It plays a crucial role in regulating many advanced brain functions, including the ability to engage in conscious thinking.
