Fructose (Levulose)

A type of sugar found in many fruits and vegetables and in honey. Fructose is used to sweeten some diet foods. It is considered a nutritive sweetener because it has calories.

Also known as fruit sugar or laevulose. A six-carbon monosaccharide sugar (hexose) differing from glucose in containing a ketone group (on carbon-2) instead of an aldehyde group (on carbon-1).

A very sweet, 6-carbon, reducing sugar found naturally in nature (honey and fruit).

A monosaccharide, sometimes known as fruit sugar, that does not stimulate insulin production.

A monosaccharide. It is found in many fruits. It is also known as levulose or fruit sugar. It is a ready source of food energy.

Fruit sugar found in honey and some fruit, which together with glucose forms sucrose.

A six-carbon sugar having a five-membered ring and a ketone group instead of an aldehyde group at its terminus.

Fructose is a 6-carbon monosaccharide (a hexose) primarily found in food in either its simple form or bound to glucose as part of the disaccharide sucrose. Foods rich in this monosaccharide itself include many fruits and honey, although much of the fructose in the diet is consumed in foods such as soft drinks, sports drinks, baked goods, and so forth, that are sweetened with high fructose corn syrup. Since one-half of the sucrose molecule is fructose, foods rich in sucrose also provide much of the fructose in the diet.

Simple sugar found in honey and some fruits; also called fruit sugar; levulose.

A simple sugar or monosaccharide. Pure fructose naturally occurs in fruits, where it combines with glucose to form sucrose. Like other sugars, fructose is a carbohydrate that provides calories but few other nutrients.

A simple sugar found in honey and in such fruit as figs. Fructose is one of the two sugars in ‘sucrose. Fructose from the diet can be used to produce energy by the process known as ‘glycolysis, which takes place in the liver. Fructose is important in the diet of diabetics since, unlike glucose, fructose metabolism is not dependent on insulin.

Fructose is another name for laevulose, or fruit sugar, which is found along with glucose in most sweet fruits. It is sweeter than sucrose (cane or beet sugar) and this has-led to its use as a sweetener.

A monosaccharide and a hexose, it has the same empirical formula as glucose, C6H1206, and is found in com syrup, honey, fruit juices, and as part of the disaccharide sucrose. In the liver, fructose is changed to glucose to be used for energy production or to be stored as glycogen.

A prevalent monosaccharide, known as fructose or fruit sugar, is a simple sugar found in many fruits, vegetables, and honey.

Fructose is a natural monosaccharide, commonly found in honey and certain fruits. When combined with glucose, it forms sucrose, which is commonly known as table sugar.

Fructose can be converted into energy just as easily as glucose, but its metabolism is independent of insulin, unlike glucose. This characteristic makes fructose an essential component in the diet of individuals with diabetes mellitus, as it can be beneficial for their nutritional needs.
