Halfway house

A specialized residence for patients who do not require full hospitalization but who need an intermediate degree of domiciliary care before returning to independent community living.


A treatment center for alcoholics or other drug addicts where they can receive support and are provided with a retreat to withdraw from addiction.


A residential home for a group of people where some professional supervision is available. It is used as a stage in the rehabilitation of the mentally ill, usually when they have been discharged from hospital and are able to work but are not yet ready for independent life.


A facility, which includes living quarters, for persons who require continuing treatment for mental illness or substance abuse (including alcoholism), but who no longer need hospitalization. The rehabilitation services provided include guidance.


A facility to house psychiatric patients who no longer need hospitalization but are not yet ready for independent living.
