Haloperidol

A conventional antipsychotic medication (a butyrophenone) used in the treatment of chronic schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders and often used to manage agitation in acutely ill psychiatric patients. Marketed under the brand name haldol.

Tranquilizer used in the treatment of psychosis and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome; also sometimes used to treat sleep disorders. Adverse side effects include hypotension and muscular incoordination.


Haloperidol An antipsychotic drug. Haloperidol (Haldol) is used to treat symptoms of mental and emotional disorders and Tourette syndrome (a neurological disorder characterized by tics); it is also used for people with severe agitation or behavior problems. Haloperidol is thought to have antipsychotic effects because it blocks dopamine receptors in the central nervous system.

One of the butyrophenone group of drugs used to treat patients with psychoses. Its action is similar to that of the phenothiazine group of drugs. It is also used in depot form, being administered by deep intramuscular injection for maintenance control of schizophrenia and other psychoses. The drug may help to control tics and intractable hiccups.


A neuroleptic drug used to treat patients with psychotic illnesses, extreme agitation, or Tourette’s syndrome.


Haloperidol is an antipsychotic medication used to manage mental health disorders like schizophrenia and mania. It’s also prescribed to control symptoms of Gilles de la Tourette’s syndrome, a rare neurological disorder, and to sedate individuals who exhibit aggression due to dementia, when administered in low doses. Side effects of this drug can include drowsiness, lethargy, weight gain, dizziness, and parkinsonism, a condition characterized by unusual movements and stiffness in the face and limbs.
