Hamstring

One of a group of tendons behind the knee, which link the thigh muscles to the bones in the lower leg.


Any of the tendons at the back of the knee. They attach the hamstring muscles (the biceps femoris, semitendinosus, and semimembranosus) to their insertions in the tibia and fibula.


The name given to the tendons at the back of the knee two on the inner side and one on the outer side attached to muscles which bend this joint. They are attached to the tibia below. Strains, or ‘pulls’, and tears of the hamstring are common in people taking part in strenuous sports such as athletics, football, rugby and tennis.


One of the tendons that form the medial and lateral boundaries of the popliteal space.


The tendons belonging to the hamstring muscles in the thigh, which function to flex the knee and rotate the foot.
