Hemoconcentration

Increase in blood cells, decrease in blood fluid.


An increase in the proportion of red blood cells relative to the plasma, brought about by a decrease in the volume of plasma. Hemoconcentration may occur in any condition in which there is a severe loss of water from the body.


A relative increase in the number of red blood cells resulting from a decrease in the volume of plasma (e.g., in dehydration).
