Hidradenitis

Inflammation of the glands of the hair follicles (called sebaceous glands) and sweat glands in the skin. Doctors believe that hidradenitis is an inflammatory disease originating in hair follicles. This condition most commonly affects the armpits, where painful abscesses may form and secondary infections can develop. Treatment includes prescribed antibiotics and hot packs. In severe cases, surgery may be required.

Inflammation of the sweat glands, usually occurring when the glands become blocked. This may occur in the armpit, around the nipple or umbilicus, or in the groin; if infection develops the condition is called hidradenitis suppurativa.
