A “hot spot” is a term used to describe a region that exhibits enhanced radionuclide absorption, as observed on a radionuclide scan. This generally signifies an atypical area where the tissue activity is heightened. The term is applicable to any radionuclide scan, but it’s most frequently used in the context of a bone scan. In such cases, the “hot spot” could point towards an abnormal condition like an infection or a tumor.
