Hyaline cartilage

Translucent bluish-white cartilage with a homogeneous matrix, present in joints and respiratory passage, and forms most of the fetal skeleton.

A type of cartilage found in the nose, larynx and joints. It forms most of the skeleton of the fetus.

Most common type of cartilage; the bluish-white elastic cartilage covering the ends of bones, connecting the ribs to the breastbone, and supporting facial structures and the trachea.

The most common type of cartilage: a bluish-white elastic material with a matrix of chondroitin sulfate in which fine collagen fibrils are embedded.

A bluish-white, glassy, translucent cartilage. The matrix appears homogeneous although it contains collagenous fibers forming a fine network. The walls of the lacunae stain intensely with basic dyes. Hyaline cartilage is flexible and slightly elastic. Its surface is covered by the perichondrium except on articular surfaces. It is found in articular cartilage, costal cartilages, the nasal septum, the larynx, and the trachea.

Hyaline cartilage, also referred to as intra-articular cartilage, is the most prevalent type of cartilage. It’s a smooth, durable connective tissue that shields and covers the surfaces of bones that interact with each other within a joint.
