Hydroxocobalamin

A cobalt-containing drug administered by injection to treat conditions involving vitamin B12 deficiency, such as pernicious anemia.

Hydroxocobalamin, or vitamin B12, has now replaced cyanocobalamin in the treatment of pernicious anaemia. It has the practical advantage that fewer injections are required than of cyanocobalamin. Like cyanocobalamin, it belongs to the group of substances known as cobalamins, which have an enzyme action in practically every metabolic system in the body and are essential for normal growth and nutrition.

A naturally occurring form of vitamin B12 used to treat B12 deficiency.

Hydroxocobalamin is a synthetic, long-lasting version of vitamin B12. It’s administered via injection to treat conditions related to vitamin B12 deficiency, most notably pernicious anemia – a disorder where vitamin B12 can’t be properly absorbed by the intestines.
