Hyperbetalipoproteinemia

Genetic disorder of lipid metabolism in which there are abnormally high levels of serum cholesterol and a tendency to develop atherosclerosis and heart disease at an early age. Treatment involves a low- cholesterol diet and sometimes the use of drugs to lower blood lipid levels.


Abnormally high amounts of the bile pigment bilirubin in the blood, usually characterized by jaundice, loss of appetite, and malaise. It may occur in liver or biliary tract disease and in diseases in which there is excessive red blood cell destruction (hemolytic anemia), and is common in newborns.


An excessive amount of β-lipoproteins in the blood.
