Hyperemia

An excessive accumulation of blood in a tissue due to vascular engorgement.


Is the increased blood flow that occurs when tissue is active.


An increased amount of blood that expands or distends the blood vessels.


Increased blood in part of the body, caused by inflammatory response or blockage of blood outflow; the skin typically becomes reddened and warm in the affected area.


The presence of excess blood in the vessels supplying a part of the body. In active hyperemia (arterial hyperemia) the arterioles are relaxed and there is an increased blood flow. In passive hyperemia the blood flow from the affected part is obstructed.
