Hypergonadism

A rare condition marked by the overstimulation of cells in the testicles in men and boys. It causes precocious sexual development and excessive growth. Hypergonadism causes early puberty in young boys. In men, symptoms may include male-pattern hair loss, excessive body hair growth, and acne. The resulting overgrowth of cells can produce enlarged muscles. When increased levels of excess testosterone are metabolized to estrogen, men with hypergonadism may develop enlarged breasts.

Hypergonadism is characterized by excessive activity of the gonads (testes or ovaries), leading to an overproduction of androgen or estrogen hormones. This condition can be caused by disorders affecting the gonads themselves or by an abnormality in the pituitary gland, resulting in the overproduction of gonadotropin hormones. In cases where hypergonadism occurs during childhood, it leads to premature sexual development and excessive growth.
