Hyperpigmentation

A skin disorder involving excess amounts of the dark pigment melanin in the skin, making dark brown patches, especially on the forehead, temples, and cheeks, which are accentuated by exposure to sun. Generally resulting from hormonal imbalance, hyperpigmentation is associated with Addison’s disease and also sometimes occurs when a woman is using birth-control pills or with pregnancy, then often called melasma gravidarum (mask of pregnancy). The condition is benign and usually clears up when balance is restored.

Unusual darkening of the skin; it may be caused by exposure to the sun, by certain drugs, or by adrenal gland disorder.

Darker than normal pigmentation, appearing as dark splotches.

An excessive presence of melanin, the pigment responsible for coloration, leads to the development of a dermatological condition. This condition affects the skin and is characterized by an overabundance of melanin in the body.
