Hyperplasia

Excessive enlargement of a tissue or structure due to an increase in the number of cells.

Anomalous proliferation of typical cells within a specific tissue results in the abnormal escalation of cell numbers. This phenomenon pertains to an excessive multiplication of normal cells in the given tissue.


Hyperplasia refers to the enlargement of an organ or tissue caused by an increase in the number of its cells. Unlike tumor cells, these new cells are normal in hyperplasia. This condition is typically a result of hormonal stimulation. It can occur as a normal physiological response, like the enlargement of breast tissue during pregnancy, or it may indicate an underlying disorder.
