Hypoplasia

Underdevelopment of an organ or tissue, often due to a decrease in the number of cells due to atrophy or destruction of tissue rather than the general size of an organ.


The failure of an organ to develop completely and reach its normal adult size; also refers to the lack of complete development of tissue in the body.


Underdevelopment of an organ or tissue. Dental hypoplasia is the defective formation of parts of a tooth due to illnesses such as measles or starvation while the tooth is being formed. It is marked by transverse lines of brown defective enamel, which define the date of the illness.
