Hysterotomy

A form of abortion resembling a caesarian section An incision is made through the abdominal wall and the fetus and other products of pregnancy are removed. This method is used between the 13th and 19th weeks of pregnancy, vacuum aspiration; dilation and curettage; menstrual extraction; saline induction.


Surgical incision (cutting) of the uterus, sometimes done as a means of abortion.


Incision of the womb, either through the abdominal wall or the vagina.


An operation in which the uterus is opened to remove a fetus before 28 weeks’ gestation. After 28 weeks it would be called a caesarean section. It is now seldom used as a means of abortion.
