An edible lichen, Cetraria islandica. It is a demulcent that has been promoted as a treatment for bladder, kidney and lung diseases.
A lichen that looks similar to Irish moss, but is darker in color, and grows on barren mountains in Iceland and other northern regions. It is sometimes used in cooking in the same way as Irish moss.
