Immunoelectrophoresis

A technique that combines protein electrophoresis and double immunodiffusion. In this procedure proteins are first separated by gel electrophoresis (usually agarose), then made visible by immunodiffusion of specific antibodies. A distinct elliptical precipitin arc results for each protein detectable by the antisera.

A technique used to separate and allow identification of complex proteins.

A method of identifying antigens in a laboratory, using electrophoresis.

A technique for identifying antigenic fractions in a serum. The components of the serum are separated by electrophoresis and allowed to diffuse through agar gel towards a particular antiserum. Where the antibody meets its antigen, a band of precipitation occurs.

A method of investigating the amount and character of proteins and antibodies in body fluids with electrophoresis.

Employing an electric field to segregate proteins within a blend (like blood or urine) according to their size and electrical charge, subsequently identifying an antigen (such as IgM) by utilizing a distinct antibody.
