Immunology

The study of the body’s immune system.

The science that studies the body’s immune system and methods for stimulating it to build antibodies to render a person resistant to a particular disease.

The study of immunity and immunisation.

The science of artificial and natural protection against infection, and of diagnosis of such infections by the detection of their antibodies or antigens in body fluids.

Study of the body’s response to foreign invasion (e.g., bacteria, vims, fungus, transplanted tis¬ sue).

The branch of science concerned with the study of the immune system and the various aspects of immunity and immune responses. The science is concerned with the specific responses made by lymphocytes (one type of white blood cells) to foreign substances and the interactions between antigens and antibodies. The study of immunity involves investigating the responses of lymphocytes that are beneficial in preventing infections and the treatment of infections caused by microorganisms. A physician trained in the medical specialty of the immune system’s normal functions and possible disorders is called an immunologist.

The study of immunity and all of the phenomena connected with the defense mechanisms of the body.

The study of immune responses to the environment. Its main clinical applications include improving resistance to microbial infections; combating the effects of impaired immunity; controlling harmful immune reactions; and manipulating immune responses to prevent harmful immunological responses such as graft rejection and autoimmune diseases. The clinical study of disordered immunity now forms the allied discipline of clinical immunology, which is closely linked to the laboratory based discipline of immunopathology.

The study of the components of the immune system and their function.

The science that concerns the body’s mechanisms for protecting itself from abnormal or foreign substances.

The field of medicine that concentrates on the body’s immune system.

Immunology is a field of study focused on the immune system. Immunologists research how the immune system operates and delve into the examination and treatment of immune system disorders. These disorders can include autoimmune conditions, allergies, and immunodeficiency disorders like AIDS.

Immunologists also strive to discover methods to activate the immune system to provide immunity. They also play a significant part in transplant surgery. Prior to surgical procedures, they work on identifying a compatible match between the recipient and the donor organ. After the transplantation, they utilize drugs to suppress the recipient’s immune system to reduce the likelihood of organ rejection.
