Incompetence

Physical or mental inadequacy or insufficiency.

The inability to do a particular act, especially a lack of knowledge or skill which makes a person unable to do particular job.

Inability of an organ or part to function normally (e.g., valvular incompetence, inability of a valve to close an opening completely).

Impaired function of the valves of the heart or veins, which allows backward leakage of blood.

A term applied to the valves of the heart when, as a result of disease in the valves or alterations in size of the chambers of the heart, they become unable to close the orifices which they should protect.

An inadequate ability to perform the function or action normal to an organ or part.

“Incompetence” in medical terms refers to a structure that fails to close as it should. For instance, an incompetent valve can lead to blood leakage, while cervical incompetence might lead to a miscarriage.

Inadequacy or failure to carry out a function, like a malfunctioning heart valve. In legal terms, it denotes a lack of capability or legal qualification, such as a drunk person’s inability to legally drive or a mentally unstable individual’s inability to create a valid will.
