Insectivorous plant

The strict term for carnivorous plants; they trap and digest insects to supply them with extra nitrogen, which is difficult to obtain from the swampy soils where they usually grow.


An alternative term for carnivorous plants; they trap and digest insects to supply them with extra nitrogen, which is difficult to obtain from the swampy soils where they usually grow. ‘Carnivorous’ is preferred by pedantic botanists because these plants may trap other small fauna (spiders for example) in addition to insects.
