Interleukin

A protein produced by the body’s immune system.

Collective group of multifunctional cytokines; synthesized by lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages.

A type of cytokine that enables communication among leukocytes and other cells active in inflammation or the specific immune response. The result is a maximized response to a microorganism or other foreign antigen.

A collection of cytokines initially identified in white blood cells, playing a crucial role in modulating immune system responses.

Interleukins are naturally occurring proteins in the body that play a role in producing various blood cell types and regulating the immune system. There are at least 18 distinct interleukins identified. One specific type, referred to as interleukin-2 or aldesleukin, is thought to decelerate kidney cancer progression. Nonetheless, it frequently presents strong side effects, such as harm to the brain and bone marrow and fluid leakage into the lungs.
