Intermittent self-catheterisation

A procedure in which someone puts a catheter through the urethra into their own bladder from time to time to empty out the urine.

A technique in which a patient (of either sex) inserts a disposable catheter through the urethra into the bladder to empty it of urine. It is increasingly used to manage patients with chronic retention of urine, or whose bladders do not empty properly usually the result of neurological disorder affecting the bladder (neuropathic bladder).
