Internal ear

The part of the ear inside the head, behind the eardrum, containing the semicircular canals, the vestibule and the cochlea.


The portion of the ear consisting of the cochlea, which contains the receptors for hearing in the organ of Corti, and the vestibule and semicircular canals, which contain the receptors for static and dynamic equilibrium. The receptors are innervated by the vestibulocochlear nerve.
