Intertrigo

An inflammation (rash) caused by microbial infection in skin folds.

An eruption of the skin due to chafing.

Irritation of skin due to rubbing of opposing surfaces.

An irritation which occurs when two skin surfaces rub against each other, as in the armpit or between the buttocks.

Irritation of two skin surfaces that are in contact, as in the armpits, under the breasts, or between the thighs. Prevention involves weight reduction, keeping the surfaces clean and dry, and applying antifungal preparations if needed.

Superficial inflammation (dermatitis) of two skin surfaces that are in contact, such as between the thighs or under the breasts, particularly in obese people. The dermatitis is caused by friction, warmth, moisture, and sweat and is often aggravated by infection.

Inflammation between two skin surfaces in contact, typically in the toe clefts, axillae, under the breasts or in the anogenital folds. Heat, friction and obesity are aggravating factors. Secondary fungal or bacterial infection is common.

Skin chafing that occurs in or under folds of skin. The irritation and trapped moisture often result in secondary bacterial or fungal infection.

Inflammation of the skin caused by the friction of two surfaces rubbing against each other is called intertrigo. It’s frequently seen in individuals who are overweight. The inflamed skin appears red, damp, and might emit an unpleasant smell. Often, it’s coexisting with fungal infections like candidiasis and can exhibit scaling or blistering. The condition can exacerbate with increased perspiration.

The recommended approach involves reducing weight and maintaining cleanliness and dryness in the affected regions. If candidiasis is identified, a cream containing antifungal medication, possibly combined with a corticosteroid, is utilized as part of the treatment.

A type of moist eczema that develops in areas where two skin folds come into contact. It arises from continuous moisture due to perspiration, leading to skin deterioration and inflammation. Common locations for intertrigo include under a hanging breast, in the groin, or in the armpit.
