Jelly roll

A particular type of sponge cake is rapidly baked in a unique, shallow pan that measures approximately ten inches by fifteen inches. Following this, the cake is removed from the pan and evenly spread with jelly before being rolled into a cylinder shape. Once cooled, the cake is sliced into portions for serving.

A jelly roll is a type of cake that contains a lower proportion of flour compared to the other ingredients, resulting in a more flexible and pliable texture. This texture is important as it allows the cake to be rolled up easily without breaking or cracking. Unlike a traditional sponge cake, which can be more dense and firm, the jelly roll is designed to be light and airy, making it perfect for rolling with a filling of jelly or other sweet ingredients. With its soft texture and delicious flavor, the jelly roll is a classic dessert that has been enjoyed by generations of cake lovers.
