Involves making two incisions through the abdominal wall, one just below the umbilicus and a second about 8 cm below the umbilicus. The abdomen is distended with an inert gas through the first incision, giving the surgeon a clear view of the fallopian tubes. The tubes are tied off through the second incision. Also called the band aid operation.
Sterilization by use of a laparoscope to gain access to the fallopian tubes so they can be banded, clipped, or electro-coagulated.
