Laryngocele

An abnormal air sac attached to the larynx (voice box); an inherited condition. A laryngocele may become enlarged when there is pressure inside the larynx, such as when a person coughs. When enlarged, a laryngocele may protrude on the outside of the neck, resembling a tumor. The condition may recur. The only treatment is a surgical procedure to remove the growth.

A developmental defect in which an air sac communicates with the larynx. The sac forms a swelling in the neck that dilates on coughing or straining.

A congenital air sac connected to the larynx. Its presence is normal in some animals but abnormal in humans.
