Laryngotracheobronchitis

Inflammation of the larynx, trachea and bronchi, as in croup.

Inflammation of the larynx, trachea, and bronchial passageways; it may be caused by bacterial or viral infection and is characterized by hoarseness, difficulty in breathing, and cough. Treatment depends on the cause; it may include steam inhalation, cough suppressants, and antibiotics, if indicated.

Inflammatory condition caused by irritation or infection that involves the voice box (larynx), windpipe (trachea), and the bronchi (air sacs between the trachea and the lungs that store air).

A severe infection of the respiratory tract, especially of young children, in whom there may be a dangerous degree of obstruction either in the larynx or main air passages (bronchi) due to the thickness and stickiness of the fluid (exudate) produced by the inflamed tissues. Treatment: as for laryngitis, with tracheostomy if necessary and bronchoscopy in addition, during which it may be possible to clear the obstructing exudate by bronchial lavage and suction.

Inflammation of the larynx (voice box), trachea (windpipe), and bronchi (primary air passages to the lungs) can result from either a viral or bacterial infection. While this condition is generally mild, it can be severe and potentially life-threatening in some instances. It’s a frequent cause of croup in young kids.
