Latent heat

Heat absorbed or liberated in a change of physical state such as evaporation, condensation, freezing or sublimation expressed as BTG per lb.

The quantity of heat, measured in BTU’s or calories, necessary to change the physical state of a substance without changing its temperature, such as in distillation.

The caloric or heat energy absorbed by matter changing from solid to liquid or from liquid to vapor with no change in temperature.
