Latissimus dorsi muscle

Muscle that extends and abducts the upper arm.


A large triangular muscle of the back originating on the lower six thoracic and the lumbar vertebrae, the lower four ribs, the sacrum, and the iliac crest and inserted in the intertubercular groove of the humerus. It adducts, extends, and medially rotates the arm and is controlled by the thoracodorsal nerve.
