Leiomyosarcoma

A malignant tumor of smooth muscle, most commonly found in the womb, stomach, small bowel, and at the base of the bladder. It is the second most common sarcoma of soft tissues. This tumor is rare in children, occurring most commonly in the bladder, prostate, and stomach.

Referred to as LMS, leiomyosarcoma is an malignant growth originating from smooth muscle tissue. These cancers are frequently found in the stomach, small intestine, bladder, uterus, and prostate, constituting one of the prevalent forms of soft tissue sarcoma (connective tissue cancer). Leiomyosarcomas primarily impact adults, being uncommon in children.

The management of leiomyosarcoma involves surgical intervention to excise both the tumor and adjacent tissue. In cases where complete removal of the tumor is not feasible, chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy are employed as additional treatment measures.

A cancerous growth composed of smooth muscle cells.
