Lepromin

A chemical prepared from lumps on the skin caused by lepromatous leprosy.

An extract derived from Mycobacterium leprae, the organism that causes leprosy. It is injected under the skin, in a fashion similar to the injection of purified protein derivative (PPD), to determine the degree of a patient’s immune response to leprosy. PPD testing is used to gauge the immune response of patients to tuberculosis.
