Lipidosis

A disorder of lipid metabolism in which subcutaneous fat is not present in some parts of the body.


Any disorder of lipid metabolism within the cells of the body. The brain lipidoses are inborn defects causing accumulation of lipids within the brain.


Any disorder of lipid metabolism in body cells. Some hereditary disorders cause deposition of lipids within the brain.


A lipidosis pertains to any condition that affects the metabolic process (chemical transformation) of lipids within cells of the body. An illustration of a lipidosis is Gaucher’s disease, a condition that results in the accumulation of fatty deposits in the liver, spleen, bone marrow, and occasionally the brain.
