Lockjaw

Common term for tetanus, during the late stages.


A painful spasm of the jaw muscles, making it hard to open the mouth. It is a prominent symptom of tetanus and was once the popular name for this condition.


An agonizing contraction of the muscles in the jaw that renders it challenging or even impossible for an individual to open their mouth. Lockjaw stands as the predominant indication of tetanus.


An infectious disease triggered by the bacterium Clostridium tetani. It’s a misconception that cuts between the thumb and index finger are more susceptible to this disease than other injuries. Also referred to as trismus.
