Loperamide

A drug that relieves severe diarrhoea by slowing down the movements of the intestine.

A piperidine derivative that works as an antidiarrheal.

An antidiarrhea drug. Loperamide (Imodium, Kaopectate, and others) helps stop diarrhea by slowing the movements of the intestines, reducing the amount of fluid in the stool, and increasing the density of the stool. Loperamide is used to relieve the symptoms of acute and chronic diarrhea.

A drug that reduces the motility of the Gas-trointestinal tract. It is of limited use as an adjunct to fluid replacement in diarrhoea in adults, and is sometimes used in chronic noninfective diarrhoea in children.

This antidiarrheal medication works by decreasing intestinal movement, thereby minimizing the loss of water and salts from the body. It is commonly employed to manage episodes of abrupt and recurring diarrhea, except in cases where the diarrhea is caused by an infection.

On occasion, loperamide can lead to the development of a rash. Uncommon side effects include abdominal cramps and bloating. Should these effects become severe, it’s important to promptly seek medical attention.
