Low density lipoproteins

Complex of lipids and proteins that carries cholesterol and deposits it along the walls of the arteries. High concentrations of LDL are associated with an increased risk of heart disease.

Belonging to a cluster of proteins bonded with lipids within the blood plasma, low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) partake in cholesterol transportation within the bloodstream. Additionally, they contribute to the deposition of cholesterol throughout the body. An excess of LDLs is linked to the development of atherosclerosis, which involves the narrowing of arteries due to the accumulation of fatty substances.
