A period of clear thinking which occurs between two periods of unconsciousness or of mental illness.
A temporary restoration of consciousness after a person has been rendered unconscious from a blow to the head. The victim subsequently relapses into coma. This is a sign of raised intracranial pressure from arterial bleeding and indicates that surgery may be required to control the intracranial haemorrhage.
A brief remission of symptoms (e.g. in psychosis, stroke, or traumatic brain injury).
A brief return to consciousness after an incident causing damage to the skull and brain. After an initial unconsciousness due to concussion, the individual regains consciousness temporarily, only to lapse into a coma due to brain compression. The term can also refer to a temporary return to a normal state for patients with certain mental or psychotic conditions.
A temporary regain of consciousness after a traumatic event affecting the skull and brain. Following a concussion-induced unconsciousness, the individual briefly becomes conscious again before lapsing into a coma due to brain compression. The term also describes the momentary return to a normal mental state in patients with specific mental or psychotic disorders.
