  • Tolerant

    Capable of enduring or withstanding drugs without experiencing ill effects.   • Tolerance test

    A test of the ability of the patient or subject to endure the medicine given or exercise taken.  

  • Tissue tolerance

    The ability of specific tissues to withstand the effects of ionizing radiation.  

  • Radiation tolerance

    The level below which tissue radiation exposure will be least harmful. Some organs are less tolerant to radiation than others.  

  • Oral tolerance

    The suppression of autoimmune or allergic responses as a result of eating antigenic material.  

  • Impaired glucose tolerance

    Altered glucose metabolism in which fasting blood sugars are less than 126 mg/dl, and blood sugar levels are over 140 mg/dl but less than 200 mg/dl 2 hr after drinking 75 g of glucose.  

  • Glucose tolerance

    The ability of the body to absorb and use glucose. The diagnostic procedure utilized to assess the velocity at which ingested glucose is eliminated from the bloodstream.  

  • Tolerable upper limit

    The maximum amount of a mineral or vitamin supplement that a person may consume in a day without incurring health risk.  

  • Tolerable daily intake

    That quantity of a chemical contaminant that accidentally enters the food supply and may be consumed on a daily basis without known adverse effects on health.  

  • Token economy system

    Any program using positive reinforcement (operant conditioning) to teach or train desired skills or behaviors.
