Active immune suppression
The use of agents to block an antigen-specific immune response. An example is the administration of anti-Rh antibodies (Rh0 immune globulin) to Rh-negative mothers during the 28th week of pregnancy to prevent the formation of maternal antibodies that cause erythroblastosis fetalis in the Rh-positive newborn.

Supine hypotensive syndrome
Sudden fall in blood pressure due to diminished venous return caused by compression of the vena cava by the gravid uterus when the pregnant woman rests flat on her back. The low venous return also results in decreased placental perfusion and potentially in fetal hypoxia.
