  • Sadomasochist

    One whose personality includes sadistic and masochistic components.  

  • Sadness

    A normal emotional feeling of dejection or melancholy that one may experience after an unhappy event.  

  • Saddle area

    The portion of the buttocks, perineum, and thighs that comes in contact with the seat of the saddle when one rides a horse.  

  • Saddle

    A surface or structure that resembles a seat used to ride a horse. The base of artificial dentures is often referred to as a saddle.  

  • Sactosalpinx

    A dilated fallopian tube owing to retention of secretions, as in pyosalpinx or hydrosalpinx.

    A large muscle group lying on either side of the vertebral column extending from the sacrum to the head. Its two chief components are the iliocostalis and longissimus muscles, Surgical excision of the lower part of the sacrum.  

  • Sacroposterior

    Denoting intrauterine fetal position in which the fetal sacrum is directed posteriorly. A term used in midwifery to describe the orientation of an unborn baby with its back facing the mother’s spine.  

  • Sacrocoxalgia

    Pain in the sacroiliac joint, usually owing to inflammation.  

  • Sacrococcygeus

    One of two small muscles (anterior and posterior) extending from the sacrum to the coccyx.  

  • Sacroanterior

    Denoting intrauterine fetal position in which the fetal sacrum is directed anteriorly. A term used in midwifery to describe the orientation of an unborn baby with its back facing the front of the mother, which is one of the positions in breech presentation. A sacral position where it is oriented forward.
