Mindblown: a blog about philosophy.

  • Refraction of eye

The refraction brought about by the refractive media of the eye (cornea, aqueous humor, crystalline lens, vitreous body).

  • Dynamic refraction

The static refraction of the eye plus that accomplished by accommodation; the reciprocal of the near-point distance.

  • Double refraction

Possession of more than one refractive index, resulting in a double image.

  • Coefficient of refraction

The quotient of the sine of the angle of incidence divided by the sine of the angle of refraction.

  • Coefficient refraction

Deflection from a straight path, as of light rays as they pass through media of different densities; the change in direction of a ray when it passes from one medium to another of a different density.

  • Refluxate

The acid, gas, and liquid that rise from the upper gastrointestinal tract into the esophagus in gastroesophageal reflux disease. Its components may include gastric acids, bile, and pepsin.

  • Hepatojugular reflux

Distention of the veins of the neck when the liver is compressed during physical examination of the abdomen. Neck vein filling during liver examination commonly is seen in patients with congestive heart failure but also may be a normal finding.

  • Reflex testing

A laboratory test that is automatically obtained when the results of a screening test indicate the need for further study. Examples of reflex tests include determination of the antibiotic sensitivity of bacteria that are identified in culture specimens; and determination of an enzyme immunoassay test for HIV when an antibody test for the virus is…

  • Reflexotherapy

Treatment by manipulating, anesthetizing, or cauterizing an area distant from the location of the disorder.

  • Reflexophil

Marked by reflex activity or by exaggerated reflexes.
