Microatelectasis
Microscopic collapse of alveoli that does not involve the airways and may not appear on radiographic examination.

Microarray
A biological semiconductor that uses DNA to make biochemical calculations, especially those involving genes and the expression of mRNA by cells. Also known as DNA microarray, gene chip.

Microangioscopy
The use of microscopy to diagnose pathological changes in capillaries.

Thrombotic microangiopathy
The formation of blood clots in small blood vessels, such as occurs in thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and hemolytic uremic syndrome.

An inflammation of very small blood vessels.

An analytical examination of minute amounts of material.

Microaggregate
A very small amount of detectable solid material that precipitates from a saturated solution. Microaggregates found in intravenous infusions are usually caused by the incompatibility of the infused components, or by the presence of cellular fragments (e.g., in transfusion).

A fine aerosol whose particles are of uniform size, usually less than 1 p m in diameter.

Microabrasion
The slow grinding down, polishing, or wearing away of a surface, especially of dental enamel or rough skin.

A questionnaire composed of 25 questions designed to determine the likelihood of a person’s dependency on alcohol.
