Secondary deviation
When the eye with a squint focuses on an object, the otherwise normal eye veers away from that point of focus.

Primary deviation
When the normal eye focuses on an object, the squinting eye turns away from it, indicating a misalignment. When the unaffected eye is focused on an object, the eye with a squint deviates from the point of focus.
