  • Babinski’s phenomenon or reflex

    An upward motion of the big toe when the sole of the foot is tickled. This is a typical reflex in infants but can indicate specific central nervous system disorders in adults. In the absence of any disease, the toe moves downward.  

  • Autotherapy

    The natural healing of an illness. The medical practice of treating a disease by utilizing the patient’s own bodily secretions, as seen in autohemotherapy. In the past, this approach was commonly employed in the management of allergic conditions.  

  • Auto-immunization

    Immunity generated through exposure to a disease. An infection originating internally within the body.  

  • Auricular fibrillation

    An entirely erratic heart rhythm resulting from electrical signals originating in the atrium. A heart condition that results in a highly irregular heartbeat, also known as atrial fibrillation.  

  • Auricular extrasystole

    An additional heartbeat originating within an auricle.  

  • Aural vertigo

    A bout of dizziness triggered by an issue in the inner ear’s labyrinth organ.  

  • Atropa

    A category of plants in the Solanaceae family, with one of the most notable species being Atropa belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade. This plant produces purple-black berries that contain belladonna, a substance used to derive atropine.  

  • Assam fever

    A condition marked by ongoing, erratic fever, severe weight loss, anemia, blood abnormalities, and changes in the liver and spleen’s cellular makeup.   • Asphyxia livida

    A type of newborn asphyxia characterized by a bluish color in the baby, resulting from a blockage in the respiratory system. Newborn asphyxia occurs in two forms.  

  • Artificial fever

    Intentionally causing a fever by administering specific substances, with the aim of positively affecting the disease the patient is dealing with.
