  • Medial rectus muscle

    Muscle that moves the eye toward the midline.  

  • Mastopexy

    Plastic surgery performed to correct drooping breasts to improve their look and form. Correction of a pendulous breast by surgical fixation and plastic surgery. A surgical intervention performed to elevate a breast, which can be utilized on the contralateral breast to achieve a balanced and symmetrical appearance alongside a reconstructed breast.  

  • Masseter muscle

    The muscle that closes the jaw and is used in chewing.  

  • Mantouxtest

    Use of a four-pronged device to puncture the skin to deliver purified protein derivative from the mycobacterium tuberculosis to determine patient’s exposure to tuberculosis.  

  • Malrotation

    Rotation of a organ or structure in such a manner as to cut off function and/or blood supply. Failure during embryogenesis of normal rotation of all or a portion of an organ or system, especially the viscera.  

  • Mall formula

    Method of calculating the age of a human embryo in days; calculated by taking the square root of the length from vertex to breech in centimeters, then multiplying by 100.  

  • Lymphokinetic

    Factors or body actions that contribute to lymph circulation; includes actions such as arterial pulses, passive compression of soft body tissues, postural changes, and skeletal muscle contractions.  

  • Lymphokinesis

    Circulation of lymph through the lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes.  

  • Lymphadenosis

    Enlargement of the lymph nodes.  

  • Lymph nodules

    Areas of lymphocyte formation within the lymph nodes. A mass of compact, densely staining lymphocytes forming the structural unit of lymphatic tissue. These nodules may occur singly, in groups (as in Peyer’s patches), or in encapsulated organs such as lymph nodes. Each contains a lighter-staining germinal center where new lymphocytes are formed.
