  • Fetal presentation

    The orientation of a fetus in the mother’s pelvic cavity in preparation for childbirth.  

  • Fertility workup

    A major medical and sexual evaluation done in cases of infertility.  

  • Fertility specialist

    An obstetrician/gynecologist or urologist who specializes in the particular problems of infertility and ways to overcome them, a fairly new medical specialty on the cutting edge of that branch of medical technology, often part of a team of specialists, including physicians and counselors.  

  • Fertility drugs

    Medications given to treat some problems associated with infertility, associated with an increased risk of multiple births in the pregnancies that occur.   • Feingold diet

    A special diet developed by Dr. Ben Feingold that eliminates items such as food colorings that he believed to cause or worsen hyperactivity in children; a type of elimination diet. A nutritional plan from which all artificial colors, artificial flavors, preservatives, and salicylates have been eliminated. It had been used in treating hyperactive children.  

  • Family shelter

    A residence to which many or all members of a family might go or be taken, as in cases of possible child abuse and neglect. Often 24-hour counseling, along with short-term diagnosis and treatment, is available as part of crisis intervention.  

  • Family court

    The type of civil court that in some states combines the functions of domestic relations court, juvenile court, and probate court. On occasion, criminal cases involving families, such as child abuse and neglect cases, also are handled in the family court.  

  • Families anonymous

    An umbrella name for self-help groups for parents attempting to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect and also for self-help groups of families of people involved in drug abuse.  

  • Expunged records

    Records that have been destroyed as if they had never existed. Documents of juvenile court proceedings are often restricted or even sealed; then, after a specified number of years, the juvenile, parent, or guardian may apply for the records to be expunged, generally on showing that the problem behavior has been improved.   • Expressive language

    The ability to express oneself in words, as opposed to receptive language, which is passively understood.
