  • Neurodermatosis

A nervous condition involving the skin. Any skin disease of neural origin, including neurofibromatosis, von Hippel-Lindau disease, Sturge-Weber syndrome, and tuberous sclerosis.

  • Neurodegenerative

Referring to a disorder such as Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson’s disease that causes damage to the nerves. Concerning wasting, necrosis, or deterioration of nerves, neurons, or the nervous system.

  • Neuroblast

A cell in the embryonic spinal cord which forms a nerve cell. Embryonic cell that develops into a neuron. Any of the nerve cells of the embryo that give rise to functional nerve cells (neurons). An embryonic cell derived from the neural tube or neural crest, giving rise to a neuron. A nascent nerve cell…

  • Neurilemmoma

A benign tumour of a nerve, formed from the neurilemma. A firm, encapsulated fibrillar tumor of a peripheral nerve.

  • Neurectomy

A surgical operation to remove all or part of a nerve. Partial or complete surgical excision or resection of a nerve. The surgical removal of the whole or part of a nerve. An operation in which part of a nerve is surgically removed; for example, for the relief of neuralgia. Partial or total excision or…

  • Neurectasis

A surgical operation to stretch a peripheral nerve. The surgical procedure for stretching a peripheral nerve.

  • Neural plate

A thickening of an embryonic disc which folds over to form the neural tube. The strip of ectoderm lying along the central axis of the early embryo that forms the ‘neural tube and subsequently the central nervous system. A thickened band of ectoderm along the dorsal surface of an embryo. The nervous system develops from…

  • Neural crest

The ridge of cells in an embryo which forms nerve cells of the sensory and autonomic ganglia. The two bands of ectodermal tissue that flank the neural plate of the early embryo. Cells of the neural crest migrate throughout the embryo and develop into sensory nerve cells and peripheral nerve cells of the autonomic nervous…

  • Neural arch

A curved part of a vertebra, which forms the space through which the spinal cord passes.

  • Neuman’s model
