  • Mutant gene

    A gene which has undergone mutation. An altered gene that permanently functions differently than it did before its alteration.  

  • Musculotendinous

    Referring to both muscular and tendinous tissue.  

  • Musculoskeletal

    Referring to muscles and bone. An adjective that relates to muscle and/or bone. The musculoskeletal system comprises the bones of the skeleton and all the muscles attached to them. Pertaining to both muscles and bones, the musculoskeletal system comprises the skeletal framework and the muscles connected to it.  

  • Musculocutaneous

    Referring to muscle and skin.  

  • Muscular rheumatism

    A disease giving pains in the back or neck, usually caused by fibrositis or inflammation of the muscles. Any aching pain in the muscles and joints. Commonly the symptoms are due to fibrositis; wear and tear of the joints (osteoarthritis); or to inflammation of the muscles associated with abnormal immune reactions (polymyalgia rheumatica).  

  • Muscular relaxant

    A drug which relaxes the muscles.  

  • Muscularis

    Muscular layer of an internal organ. A muscular layer of the wall of a hollow organ (such as the stomach) or a tubular structure (such as the intestine or ureter). The muscularis mucosae is the muscular layer of a mucous membrane complex, especially that of the stomach or intestine.  

  • Muscular disorder

    A disorder which affects the muscles, e.g. cramp or strain.  

  • Muscular defence

    A rigidity of muscles associated with inflammation such as peritonitis.  

  • Muscular branch

    A branch of a nerve to a muscle carrying efferent impulses to produce contraction.
